A Little Spunk Back

Guess who woke up with a little more spunk this morning and a little sparkle back in those eyes?

Max slept good and woke up fever free this morning. His green eye and green nose was also better today. He still had a bit of a running nose but was fever free all day. He is still not quite himself but was feeling tons better today. We are so thankful for all the prayers on his behalf.

This morning we went for a walk around the island. When we Skyped back home to talk with the kids and heard the below zero temps we are missing it made our morning walk even that much sweeter. The island is beautiful and so is the weather. Everyone from here thinks it is cold so many have stopped Eric with his short sleeve shirt on to ask if he is cold and needs a jacket. When he says he isn't cold they say to him, "Wow, you are strong!" It is very Americanized on the island. Everyone speaks English, the menus are in English, there are tons of other American families carrying Asian babies around so you don't feel like everyone is staring at you like we felt in Jinan. It really doesn't feel like we are in China when we are on the island. We are missing the true feel of China so may just be crossing the bridge to the local Guangzhou area in the next day or two.

We made a new friend this morning. James stopped us on our walk and asked us if he could practice his English with us. He said he learned English from watching American movies, listening to American music and some from college. He wants to go to the US and play basketball with the American boys he said. He did say he wasn't very good though.

Max was very excited about the new shoes he scored this morning on our walk. They are squeeky shoes so he was so curious what was making the noise when he walked. It was so cute to see his little expressions as he looked at his feet every time he took a step.

This afternoon we took off to the local Jade Market. It was unbelievable the amount of little shops and the amount of jade in the whole market. We had fun walking through the market.

We then had to cross the crazy street to get to the Pearl Market.

The Pearl Market was unbelievable too. There were hundreds of stores. Take a look at how many floors of pearl shops there are. We bought a couple things and are hoping we got the real deal today.

We have met some wonderful friends on this journey. Some I am sure will end up being life long friends. Kurt and Lauren are one of those couples that we have totally clicked with. It has been fun to get to know them and their sweet little girl Lucy, aka Lu Lu. Isn't she just the sweetest thing. Tonight we decided to order in and let the kids crawl around and play vs sit at a restaurant. We enjoyed our time tonight just hanging out, laughing and getting to know each other better.

Max and Lu Lu are sharing some bread.

And one more picture of our little boy who we are head over heals in love with.

I loved the island when we were there. I felt so safe there and loved the shopping. Glad the little guy is feeling better. When we went shopping for Jade, they got a bracelet stuck on my arm. (it was one of the circle ones,if you know what I mean) I screamed when they finally got it off, my hand was black and blue. They wouldn't sell me a bigger one because you aren't SUPPOSED to take them off. Buy one of the jade family balls, they are so cheap over there. You are doing a wonderful job with your blog. I know how tired you get and don't always feel like you can do it, but it is worth it once you are home. Blessings

Hi Julie,

I'm so happy to read that Max is feeling better. Your post made me giggle today about James wanting to come play basketball with the "American boys". :) That was cute. By the way, you can check to see if your pearls are real by putting them between your teeth. If they're gritty and not smooth feeling, they're real. At least that's what someone told me once. And I've always found it to be true. :)

Your photos of China are beautiful ~ I hope you're pleased with your new lens.

I'm enjoying being on the journey with you!
Kathy
